As promised the weather was not kind to the 500 athletes competiting in the third successive British Championships staged at Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield.

Which only made a tough and technical course even harder.

However the conditions did not stop some excellent performances, with overall winners Andy Tarry 2XU TFN RT and Lou Collins TFN Tri Club identical to those at The Dambuster Triathlon a fortnight ago. This time the winning margins were much less, with Tarry (2.01.30) only taking victory by 28 seconds from James Third.

Lou Collins (2.18.56)had a slightly more comfortable win of nearly 2 mins from Jill Parker of Tri London.

In its first year the Festival has attracted masses of interest from competitors, industry bodies and numerous corporate organisations, one of whom Wrigley have agreed to sponsor the event. Their investment will help to improve the organisation of the event and enable us to maximise the potential of the first ever British Disabled Triathlon Championships.

Toby Baker, Marketing Director for Wrigley said of the sponsorship:

“Wrigley's Airwaves® is proud to be supporting The British Disabled Triathlon this year. The partnership is a perfect alliance between a high intensity competition that challenges competitors both mentally and physically, and a great range of chewing gum products that have been developed to give you an "intense kick” leaving you feeling invigorated and ready for anything. Airwaves® look forward to an extremely successful event”.

The agreement made with Wrigley’s Airwaves® is another step forward in the constant development of inclusive participation which One Step Beyond, alongside The National Governing Body, is striving to achieve. This is a viewpoint shared by Julian Wills, National Equity Manager “The British Disabled Triathlon Championships supported by Wrigley's Airwaves®, will be the first comprehensive national championships for disabled triathletes, anywhere in the world. The event is a culmination of almost four years development work, and the Championships are a milestone in disabled triathlon history. We have many more targets ahead of us, but we are delighted to have reached this one in a relatively short period of time."

<creator>Admin</creator>

Provisional results from Muscles of Steel 10k now online

The beautiful backdrop of Sandown Park Racecourse on a fresh sunny February morning provided athletes with the perfect race arena for The Muscles of Steel 10k. Next it is the legendary Dambuster Triathlon, our first visit of the year to the beautiful Rutland Water, Leicestershire.

After that in July it is slightly north to The Wakefield Triathlon incorporating The British Triathlon Age Group Championships. A great testing event, which justifies its National Championship status. Next we finish off the Timex Sprint Triathlon Series at the David Lloyd Lincoln Sprint Triathlon, this is a great venue for a pool sprint event.

In August, we have the Club Relays. It is with the greatest delight that we can announce the Club Relays was awarded The British Triathlon National Event of the Year. Next is the biggie, The Vitruvian Triathlon, one of the biggest and best events in the country. Last year we received over 1000 entries, sadly we were only able to accept 800. This year, we are able to accept 1000, but please be quick, demand is very high. Following The Vitruvian, is the Last Minute Sprint Triathlon, an end of season various of our infamous Southwell Sprint Triathlon, a great opportunity to check your end of season fitness.

And then finally, we finish our season as we started, off road. The Robin Hood Adventure Challenge is a full day of fun for all the family, you choose between the Evil Sherriff Off Road Duathlon, Robin Hood 10km, Maid Marian 5km or the Little John 2km.

One Step Beyond Promotions are taking over Sherwood Pines on the 29th September 2007 to organise an event which has something for everyone!

We will be organising 4 events throughout the day which will be:

The Evil Sheriff Off Road Duathlon: Based on the course area used for Mud, Sweat and Gears in April earlier this year, this will be a challenging off road duathlon course, consisting of a 6km run 18km bike 3km run. This event has some technical up hill sections and will undoubtedly live up to it's name of being an 'Evil Off Road Duathlon'! However don't let this put you off the course is great fun and we expect to see competitors of all abilities competing on mountain and cyclo cross bikes.

The Robin Hood 10km Run: This event is open to anyone over the age of 15 yrs old all abilities welcome, this is an inclusive 10km run which offers fantastic scenery through Robin Hood's beautiful forest. The course will follow the internal roads within the park providing competitors with a safe enjoyable event, whether you are chasing down a fast time or simply enjoying the woodland.

The Maid Marian 5km Run: If you do not fancy taking on 'The Robin Hood 10km' why not give this a go. Again this event is open to anyone over the age of 15 yrs old and we expect to see lots of mixed abilities, ages and hopefully some fancy dress! Whether you are training to get fit, raising money for charity or simply fancy setting yourself a challenge why not try this 5km run in Sherwood Pines.

The Little John 2km Fun Run: It did not seem fair to organise all these events without doing something for the kids, so here it is. The Little John 2km run is for boys and girls up to the age of 15 yrs old. We expect children of all abilities to take part, and hopefully this event will be full of fancy dress! Set within the safety of the park this is the perfect opportunity to introduce your kids to a fun running event.

All competitors who have already entered the event will be given a full refund which will be sent out in due course. Pace Setter Events would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of this cancellation.

Due to the unusual weather conditions which have occurred recently in the UK, Pacesetter Events and the National Trust have been forced to cancel the Clumber Classic Triathlon due to the emergence of an unprecedented quantity of weed which has developed on the lake in the recent weeks. The development of this weed has meant that the swim section of the event would not be possible for safety reasons leaving no option but to cancel the race in 2006

The decision to cancel the event outright was not an easy one but all organising parties felt that this option would then allow athletes who wish to find another triathlon event on the same weekend would gain the opportunity to do so with as much advance warning as possible.

On a more positive note Pace Setter Events and The National Trust at Clumber Park are pleased to announce that a new event is scheduled for March 2007 with The Clumber Park Classic Duathlon which will be staged as an early season opener so still allowing athletes to race at one of the most picturesque venues on the Triathlon / Duathlon calendar.
